How to get rich without getting lucky

读《The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant》

知道《The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant》这本书是看到Twitter上的一个转帖,转发的是Naval How to Get Rich (without getting lucky)系列Twitter中的一句

Understand that ethical wealth creation is possible. If you secretly despise wealth, it will elude you.

The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant的官网上找到了这本书。

这篇文章主要用来记录我读《The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant》的收获。

Building Wealth

Seek wealth, not money or status. Wealth is having assets that earn while you sleep. Money is how we transfer time and wealth. Status is your place in the social hierarchy.

Specific Knowledge

Specific knowledge is knowledge that you cannot be trained for. If society can train you, it can train someone else, and replace you.

Building specific knowledge will feel like play to you but will look like work to others. I’m always “working.” It looks like work to others, but it feels like play to me. And that’s how I know no one can compete with me on it. Because I’m just playing, for sixteen hours a day. If others want to compete with me, they’re going to work, and they’re going to lose because they’re not going to do it for sixteen hours a day, seven days a week.

Accountability

Embrace accountability, and take business risks under your own name. Society will reward you with responsibility, equity, and leverage.

You can't be normal and expect abnormal returns. -Jeffrey Pfeffer

Leverage

The most dangerous things are heroin, and a monthly salary.

Forget rich versus poor, white-collar versus blue. It's now leveraged versus un-leveraged.

Labor

Money

Product with no marginal cost of replication

You’re not going to get rich renting out your time. You must own equity - a piece of a business - to gain your financial freedom.

Ear with your mind, not your time.

Building Judgement

Hard work is really overrated. How hard you work matters a lot less in the modern economy.

What is underrated?

Judgment. Judgment is underrated.

Basically, if someone is using a lot of fancy words and a lot of big concepts, they probably don’t know what they’re talking about. I think the smartest people can explain things to a child. If you can’t explain it to a child, then you don’t know it. It’s a common saying and it’s very true.

A contrarian isn’t one who always objects—that’s a conformist of a different sort. A contrarian reasons independently from the ground up and resists pressure to conform.

Optimistic contrarians are the rarest breed.

“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.” -Buddhist saying

Almost all biases are time-saving heuristics. For important decisions, discard memory and identity, and focus on the problem.

The classical virtues are all decision-making heuristics to make one optimize for the long term rather than for the short term.

“You should never, ever fool anybody, and you are the easiest person to fool.” - Richard Feynman

Reading science, math, and philosophy one hour per day will likely put you at the upper echelon of human success within seven years.
